Welcome to the Loddon Alive Website
The Loddon Shire is the seventh largest municipality by area in North Central Victoria and covers approximately 6,700 square kilometres with a population of approximately 8,600.
The Loddon Shire is characterised by a number of small towns dispersed throughout the area.
The larger centres in the Loddon Shire are Bridgewater, Boort, Inglewood, Pyramid Hill, Serpentine, Tarnagulla, and Wedderburn. There are also many vibrant smaller communities throughout the Loddon Shire.
Agriculture is the major business of the Loddon Shire. The Southern areas concentrate on dryland, traditional mixed farming enterprises, while the Northern region has a focus on irrigated agriculture and horticulture, but with large tracts of dryland cropping.
For the purposes of tourism, Loddon Shire is roughly divided into three geographic regions: Southern, Central and Northern. Whilst the regions do have connecting themes they are also individually different. One major connecting theme is natural attractions that include Bike Trails at Tarnagulla, Kooyoora State Park at Rheola, Loddon River at Bridgewater and districts; Majors vision ‘The Hill’ at Pyramid Hill, Boort Lakes, Terrick Terrick National Park at Mitiamo and Leaghur State Park at Boort.
Each of these natural attractions can involve a number of activities such as bush walking, bird watching, cycling, camping, wild flower viewing and learning about indigenous culture.
