Olive HarvesterBoort Development Committee was formed in 1989 by the former Shire of Gordon.  At that time the Shire supported the view that actively seeking to strengthen the local economy was a legitimate role of Council and this is carried on by the present Loddon Shire Council.

The township of Boort has a population of approximately 850 people and services an area with a total population of 2500.  Unlike other small towns in Victoria, Boort has been stable in population and has weathered the withdrawal of government and banking services over the past 15 years better than most.  In part, this is due to the irrigation and dryland farming mix we have, the historic affluence of the area and the tenacity of the “local” to maintain and improve their town.  The district boasts a combination of excellent soil types, and reasonably priced land along with the cheapest gravity irrigation system in Victoria, which opens many opportunities and has led to huge investments in Olive Groves, Vineyards, Tomatoes and Irrigated crops.

Josh Lanyon HayOver the years the Boort Development Committee has been involved in a number of major developments which include the “Whittaker Industrial Estate” which was occupied by Johnson Asahi Hay, but has recently been taken over Josh Lanyon Hay Enterprises and by Taylor Olive Equipment Pty Ltd who build Olive Harvesters as well as general Engineering Works.

Other involvements include “Biggin Hill” Airstrip, Lake Marmal Vineyards, Olive Industry, establishing other Industrial sites around the township of Boort.  In recent times the Committee has worked with the Loddon Shire Council on the Boort Community Plan.

Boort District Health comprises of a Hospital, Nursing Home, Adult Day Care Centre and a 30 bed Hostel.  A Medical Centre complements this with a resident Doctor, Physiotherapist and three visiting Doctors plus a public and private Dental Clinic.

Timbercorp Boort Olives Processing PlantBoort is fortunate to have excellent education facilities ranging from Child Care and Kindergarten facilities to a recently upgraded Primary School and a very successful Secondary College.

A combination of excellent Education, Medical and Sporting facilities as well as a Mediterranean climate with irrigation and good soil types makes Boort and District a wonderful place to live or invest.

The Boort Development Committee meets on the 1st Monday of each month and everyone that is interested in the future of Boort is welcome.
