Loddon River Bridgewater On LoddonWe are located in North West Victoria on the Calder Highway just 30 minutes from Bendigo and two hours from Melbourne. This friendly rural community has a population of approximately 400 people including the nearby farms.

Nestled on the banks of the beautiful Loddon River, Bridgewater is rich in history, strong in character and full of interesting things to see and do.

Situated in the centre of of one of Victoria's best wheat growing areas, there is a good balance of residential, farming, retail, business and industry. Diversification has led to many local products becoming available including wine, olive oil, flour, potatoes, honey, eggs and poultry, vegetables, crafts and much more.

Whether you want to jump out of an aeroplane or sit by the river and relax, Bridgewater is "The Place To Be".

Bridgewater enjoys plenty of warm, sunny weather, clear star filled evenings and balmy summer nights. With an average yearly rainfall of 17 inches or 425mm, a weir at the local swimming area ensures that the river level remains fairly constant all year round. This makes it ideal for water activities such as fishing, swimming, kyaking, water skiing and bird watching.

Serpentine

Serpentine, near Bridgewater on Loddon, is located on the Serpentine Creek, which is a tributary of the Loddon River, which you cross about four kilometres down the Bridgewater Road.

The main industry in the area is agriculture, which includes grain, wheat, barley and canola. The area is also a prime Lucerne growing area. This fodder is used for hay production and grazing stock in the summer time.

The population of Serpentine is about 130 with an extended rural population.

Places of interest in the township:

  • THE FLOW (located near the roadhouse) represents Agriculture and sporting interests in local communities surrounding Serpentine.
  • THE PON PON is a natural reserve with a walking track and is to be developed into a wetland area. It is located down Davis or Hunter Streets off Peppercorn Way.
  • RUDKINS RESERVE is located in the centre of town where you will find a very informative Information Centre. There is also a commemorative site of the first official air race which was held in 1920. This is also a great spot for a BBQ with a rest area.
  • JANIAMBER PARK has a nice camping spot (no power), playground and rest area. It can be found down Chapel Street and past the football ground.

Serpentine is a great sporting town, with winter sports of football and netball. These sports are played at Janiamber Park. Then, in summer, tennis, cricket and lawn bowls are the big favourites.

Serpentine is also the centre of the Loddon Shire. An Office is based here, with Home and Community Care Services using these, as well as all the Council meetings.
