The fire season can be a dangerous time of year in Loddon and everyone in the Shire should have considered implementing their own Bushfire Survival Plan. Several of our towns in the Shire have quite a risk of bushfire and the lessons from Black Saturday in 2009 need to be well heeded. None of the towns in the Shire were identified in the 52 towns by the CFA where town plans were completed for bushfires. Consequently, there are no defined "Areas of Last Resort" within the Loddon Shire at this stage.
Residents should therefore have their own bushfire survival plan in place and monitor information on fire situations, particularly on days declared as catastrophic. The Shire falls into the Northern Country Fire District Rating District for Fire Danger Warnings, but into the North Western District for the purpose of Total Fire Ban declarations. This can be somewhat confusing so people need to be aware of the differences between the two types of areas.
