What an amazing day it's been. We lost power in Wedderburn at 11.55pm on 14 January and are still without power at 6pm on the 15th. Apparently the problem is the substation at Charlton. The Powercor website said it was due to storms, but there haven't been any. We can only assume it's due to floodwaters as the substation is on the outskirts of town and in a low lying area. Reports indicate as many as 8000 homes affected throughout the region.
We finally had some good news with ABC Radio broadcasting information about affected areas and where relief centres were.
Wedderburn Area Floods Aftermath Written by Ric Raftis
The sun is finally shining and no more rain is showing on the radar. It looks like the wet weather has finally departed, but there is still significant water to drain away.
We decided to take a drive out to Logan this morning and check on the flood waters out there, in particular around Fentons Creek. Many places were just a sea of water as you will see in the video and photos we managed to take. With the amount of water around, there is no doubt the Avoca River will be flooding and Charlton will be sandbagging the town for the third time in recent months. I imagine that this time it will be worse than the last two times as there is just such a huge volume of water around.
Wedderburn's Continuing Wet Weather Written by Ric Raftis
After a brief respite on Wednesday, Wedderburn prepared for more wet weather on Thursday with between 40 and 80mm of rain predicted. As at 7pm on the Thursday, we had measured 40mm in our backyard gauge.
This was enough to start causing all sorts of problems around the area. With the ground wet, the new rains simply ran off and added to the already swollen creeks.
Wedderburn's Wet January Written by Ric Raftis
At the time of writing this blog post which is 7pm on the 11th January, we have recorded a total of 79mm of rain over Monday and Tuesday.
We travelled to Kerang yesterday and even as early as 11am there was much flooding all the way. The journey was continually delayed with water across the road, although the entrance to Borung was surprisingly clear on the way over. Last year when we had all that rain, the entrance to Borung from Korong Vale was covered with water for at least 200 metres. On the way back from Kerang however, there was the water all over the road at Borung. Many of the other trouble spots we experienced heading over however had drained away.
Locusts In Wedderburn Written by Ric Raftis
The influx of locusts has certainly happened as promised. Despite all the spraying that has gone on to minimize the impact of the locust plague, they are here in force. It's almost like living in a cloud of locusts when walking around town and driving is even worse.
The invasion of the bowling green and tennis courts is of particular concern. The locusts are well on their way to eating the grass down to its roots. I'm not sure what can be done to redeem the situation with the sporting facilities once the locusts disappear.

Happy 60th birthday to Mineka Wigmore. Mineka had a birthday luncheon with a few mates on Friday.
Had Stirrer Hargreaves around for a haircut on Friday night. Was amazed to see he had red fingernail polish on !!! I have never really imagined him as a cross dresser Started wondering what he gets up to out there at Kurraca Imagine my relief when he said he has had Ruby out there on work experience. The fingernails were probably Ruby trying to jazz her old grandfather up a bit.
