Wedderburn's Wet January

Written by  Ric Raftis

Water over roadsAt the time of writing this blog post which is 7pm on the 11th January, we have recorded a total of 79mm of rain over Monday and Tuesday.

We travelled to Kerang yesterday and even as early as 11am there was much flooding all the way. The journey was continually delayed with water across the road, although the entrance to Borung was surprisingly clear on the way over. Last year when we had all that rain, the entrance to Borung from Korong Vale was covered with water for at least 200 metres.  On the way back from Kerang however, there was the water all over the road at Borung.  Many of the other trouble spots we experienced heading over however had drained away.

The rain has continued all day today and much more is expected. According to the weather forecast we are expected to get between 20 and 40mm today. It looks like we have already had this amount.  Tomorrow is looking a little better with only 5 to 10mm expected, but Thursday is shaping up to be quite bad with between 40 and 80mm expected for the day.  After that we can look forward to it clearing up.

The Queensland situation is of course very bad and there has been enormous loss of property and several lives as well.  Let's hope we can get through what is shaping up as one of our wettest weeks for many, many years without too much damage to property and crops.
