Overnight we measured a further 45mm in the backyard rain gauge here in Wedderburn. This was a huge amount on top of the 40mm we received yesterday and resulted in a total of 140mm for the week.
We headed out the Logan Wedderburn Road to find several places with water across the road. Fortunately we were in the 4WD and as the roadside posts were still visible at all places, we could easily assess the depth that the water was running. In some places it was up towards the top of the posts, but there was enough freeboard in the vehicle to get through. We made it out to Logan to get the shots you can see below. Hopefully it will be a long, long time before we see this level of flooding again in the area.
Fentons Creek was just amazing. There would have been water over the road for about a kilometre and it was up over the bridge and rushing through very quickly. You will see in the photos some of the signs at Fentons Creek and you will see the Give Way sign on Stephensons Road just sticking its head above the water line. Much of Spring Hill Station near the main road was under water.
Logan is just a sea of water, but of the course the pub is safe and high and dry. All this water will drain to the Avoca and then downstream to Charlton. It will be a few days before it arrives there, but it could peak for several days given the amount of water rushing down creeks and spread out across the paddocks.
From a positive perspective, all this rain should rejuvenate the bush after all these years of drought and restore a level of sub-soil moisture. Nature certainly works in mysterious ways!
