History

At left are the Wedderburn Netball Club's uniforms throughout the years of its history since 1954.

Wedderburn Netball Club probably has one of the most illustrious records in Victorian Country Netball. Since its inception in 1954, then known as the North Central Basketball Association, the Wedderburn Basketball Club was the first A Grade team to win the Grand Final. From then on the A Grade won a total of 19 Grand Finals, more than any other team in the Association to date. They were premiers in 1954, runners up in 1955, 1956, 1957 and 1958. Premiers in 1959, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1967, 1969, 1970, 1970, 1973, 1982, 1991, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002 and runners up 2003.

The B Grade has an even more impressive record of 20 premierships so far. They won 13 successive Grand Finals from 1955 – 1967. Since then they were premiers in 1976, 1983, 1994, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, and 2001.

The only time Wedderburn Netballers didn’t feature in the finals was in 1974.

In 1990 the North Central Netball Association introduced the C Grade. Wedderburn won this premiership 10 times out of a possible 13. There was no C Grade in 1997. They won in 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1996, 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2003.

Wedderburn Under 17’s were premiers in 1988 and 1989.

Under 16A were premiers in 2001.

Under 14 premiers 1977.

Under 13 runners-up 2000.

The North Central Netball Association now has six grades of netball. These are A, B, C, Junior A, Junior B and Under 13. The club would welcome new players for any of these grades.

The Wedderburn Netball Club has had a long list of outstanding players and coaches over the years who have contributed to the Club’s wonderful achievements. So you can see that it is a truly amazing Club with history unlike any other Club in country netball.

Netball Highlights

In 1962 the B Grade scored 103 goals to 1.
In 1994 the C Grade scored 101 goals to 3.
In 2000 the A Grade fell 1 goal short, they scored 99 goals in one game. In 1999 the A, B and C Grades were all undefeated. In 2000 the A Grade were again undefeated.
